In 1900 there were no weather satellites and no Doppler radar. However, warnings were issue by the U.S. Weather Bureau, the predecessor of the current NOAA National Weather Service. People were advised to seek higher ground. Many didn't heed the warnings preferring instead to watch the huge waves.

The Wright brothers developed their first effective airplane during the years of 1900 to 1903. On December 17, 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright flew the Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Another major event was the development of the Ford Model T car by Henry Ford. The Model T was the first affordable car for average people, only costing about 700 dollars. Over 15,000,000 cars with the model T engine were produced over a period of 19 years.

Despite the activities of the Suffragettes and the support of the Labour Party and some members of the Liberal Party, women still had very few rights in 1900 and certainly no political rights. In fact, the activities of the Suffragettes lost women the support of many people, including women, who viewed what they did with alarm.
