This Model 1861 was the standard rifle-musket used throughout the war. It was originally made by the Springfield Armory, but due to the need for more firearms, the U.S. government contracted with twenty private contractors. It is estimated that about one million Model 1861–type muskets were manufactured during the war. It was a modification of the Model 1855 rifle-musket that eliminated the patch box and the Maynard tape primer. These changes lowered its manufacturing costs and time, both of which were beneficial to a country at war and in need of firearms.

The 1861 Colt Navy Revolver is a streamlined version of the older 1851 Colt Navy revolver, and is one of the most attractive and perhaps the finest of all Model black powder percussion handguns ever made. It was one of the last military style percussion revolvers and is an excellent gun in all respects.

The settlement concerns the sale of the implantable Ventak Prizm 2 DR Model 1861. The attorney general's office said an investigation was opened when it was learned that Guidant made changes in 2002 to correct a wiring problem that could cause the unit to short-circuit and be unable to jump-start a heart. But Guidant kept selling unmodified Prizms and did not notify doctors or the public until 2005.
