Even though construction on the 1054 sq. ft. space has begun and a February 2008 opening is tentatively planned, Einstein's Bros. has already begun to serve a selection of its eclectic sandwiches made with high quality ingredients, crisp, fresh salads and Darn Good Coffee(R) to hotel guests and area patrons.

In 20 months of war in the SWPA, the 1054 readily set the work records in their ports. In fact, this seemed to be the norm for the early PC&R Groups formed at Ft. Screven. The 1051, 1052, 1053, 1054, 1055, and 1056 had benefited from the special recruitment programs that took journeymen directly from industry. Across the board, these units performed in a manner that "cannot be overvalued." But that special recruitment program began to fail as the pool of available specialists turned out to be smaller than expected. Some civilian construction projects enjoyed a high priority rating, and power projects such as Shasta and Coulee Dams had employment in the thousands.

These two dates, July 4, 1054, and April 17, 1056, indicate that the "guest star" was visible to the naked eye for 653 days, at least from China. Yang Wei-Te, Chinese court astronomer/astrologer in those days, reports that in its first two months, the star was of yellow color.

The 1054 Engineer, Port Construction and Repair Group consisted of 17 officers and 236 enlisted men. The following roster of 286 names therefore includes replacements who joined the Group somewhere in the Pacific. An asterisk marks those men known to have been in the original complement at Ft Screvin or aboard the U.S.A.T. Cape Mendocino.

If a manufacturer desires to have material added to the Pre-Acceptance List of admixtures, a certification and guarantee must be submitted to the State Construction and Materials Engineer in accordance with the requirements of Sec 1054. The certification and guarantee shall be accompanied by a one-quart (1 liter) sample of air-entraining admixture, water-reducing admixture (including high range) or retarding admixture as applicable. A one-gallon (4 liter) sample of accelerating admixture or latex emulsion admixture shall be submitted for qualification. Upon approval of the admixture, it will be placed on the applicable list.
