Huun Huur Tu is the foremost representative of Tuvan music and did much to popularize overtone singing. Tuvans have a long tradition of imitating and re-interpreting the sounds of the natural world through throat-singing, whistling, and other vocal techniques. Huun Huur Tu was the first group to incorporate Tuva’s vocal and instrumental traditions. They have a long history of collaborating with artists from all over the world the and have contributed their unique vocals to albums and/or performances by Frank Zappa, The Chieftans, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, The Kronos Quartet and L. Shankar as well as Ry Cooder’s soundtrack to the film, Geronimo.
