LEGAL
Legalese is an English term first used in 1914[1] for legal writing that is difficult for nonlawyers to understand. The implication is that this difficulty is a deliberate market strategy to exclude those without a legal background and to justify the fees charged by the legal profession. The term has been adopted by other languages.[2][3] Legalese is legal writing that is characterized by long sentences, numerous modifying clauses, complex vocabulary, high levels of abstraction, and a general lack of sensitivity to the needs of the nonlegal reader. Legalese arises most commonly in legal drafting, although it appears in both types of legal analysis as well. Today, the Plain Language Movement in legal writing is gaining a foothold, and experts are busy trying to debunk what they see as the myths of legalese.
