ALESSANDRO VOLTA
Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) was an Italian physicist and a Pioneer in the study of electricity. In the 1799 he was appointed to the chair of physics at the University of Pavia, where he ... became Chancellor. He has invented the so-called Volta's pile (or voltaic pile). Volta has proved that when certain metals and chemicals come into contact with each other they can produce an electrical current. He placed together several pairs of silver and zinc discs separated by paper soaked in salt water and an electrical current was produced. Since Volta has produced the first battery, there have been two centuries of history and progress of science and technology in which has developed a society strongly based on the application of electricity.
