LACKAWANNA BLUES
Lackawanna Blues is an Obie Award-winning play written and performed by Tony Award-winning actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson at the Intiman Theater in Seattle. In this powerful, often humorous one-man show, Santiago-Hudson plays more than 20 roles as he recreates his life in Lackawanna, New York in the mid 1950s. The play is a tribute to Miss Rachel Crosby, the woman known as Nanny, who took in Santiago-Hudson when he was two years after his 21-year-old mother realized she could not raise him. Accompanied by blues guitarist Bill Sims, Jr., Santiago-Hudson brings to life the ever compassionate Nanny, and the many people she sheltered and helped in her Lackawanna boarding houses.
