Wrexham, close to the Cheshire border, is the largest settlement in North Wales and formerly one of the most industrialised areas in Wales. The complex network of railways is a big reminder of this part of Wrexhams history. The town had several breweries but all commercial brewing has now stopped. Bricks were produced on the outskirts of Wrexham and coal mining was ... an important industry. In more recent times, Wrexham has hosted the the National Eisteddfod - a Welsh festival of literature, on several occasions. Central Station is a popular venue for touring bands including the likes of The Charlatans, Bloc Party, Ash and Shed Seven.
