Preview: This is a primarily uphill walk over rocky cliffs to one of the caves where the legendary Leatherman is said to have frequently made a stop on his endless travels throughout the state. With scenic outlooks, this section of the Mattatuck Trail in a segment of state forest in Watertown involves climbing and some bare, flat-rock exposures. Use care (especially with children or inexperienced hikers) when near cliff edges and when descending to the cave—it’s rocky with very steep drops!
