The current constellation of Mimas came to be in August 2004 when bassist Gert Joergensen joined the band, which at that time already consisted of Daniel Malling Beck, Kenn Hedegaard Eskildsen, Lasse Dahl and Icelandic born Snævar Njáll Albertsson. The five band members recorded the EP ‘Hands Will Carry’ in 2005 and spent a year promoting their music throughout Denmark – performances included concerts at the Roskilde Festival and at the Klub Sanz Festival in the summer of 2005. Mimas concerts confronts the audience with music inspired by the American post-rock scene combined with a lavish handful of jazz and sequences clearly showing the band’s passion for heavy metal. The lead vocals have been compared to singers as varied and different as Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500, Efrim of The silver mt. zion as well as Jónsi of Sigur Rós. Underneath the lead vocals the music consists of two guitars, bas, drums, electronics, keyboards, sampling, loops, trumpets and choir. This mixed instrumentation and the raw, honest expression along with the often morbid yet humorous content of the lyrics has been praised by Danish and English cultural media – including Drowned in Sound, tasty fanzine, losing today subbacultcha, RoomThirteen, Digital spy, Soundvenue and Mymusic.
