Jay Mohr won’t be back to fling his barbs and witticisms at Friday’s Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony, but there will be someone filling that role. David Spade will this year’s “featured performer,” which is curious since he now stars on a CBS comedy called “Rules of Engagement” even though CBS is not involved in NASCAR coverage in any way. The musical performer this year will, predictably, be Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson has become the unofficial Official Pop Songstress of NASCAR after performing at the 2007 Daytona 500 and taking part in an advertising campaign for the sport this year.Jerry Punch will serve as master of ceremonies. The banquet will be carried live on ESPN Classic with a replay beginning at 11:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
